Babajide Olatunji

Babajide Olatunji is a full time studio artist and autodidact, having spent many years of self-directed study researching art historical movements and modes of production. Marrying his technical proficiency and the extensive research supporting each work, the resulting works are highly photorealistic portraits. Each of Olatunji’s portraits is an illusory creation, but even if the subjects do not exist in reality, the layers of context behind their creation and the technical proficiency in their execution bestow on the works a high degree of implied photo-realism. Bloom Art and Tafeta presented Olatunji’s Tribal Marks Series, a collection of hyperrealist portraits informed by the artist’s extensive research into the age-old practice of facial scarring and interactions with carriers of these marks.
