Barthélémy Toguo

Toguo trained at the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf, Germany. In 2007, he founded Bandjoun Station, a centre located in Cameroon, for artistic exchange between local and international artists. He has exhibited his work at several institutions including Uppsala Art Museum, Sweden; La Verrière by Hermès, Belgium; Fundaçao Gulbenkian, Lisbon; the 56th Venice Biennale and the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York. Toguo is shortlisted for the Prix Marcel Duchamp for 2016. In 2011, he was made a Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature in France. Toguo’s artistic oeuvre is a haunting protest against the inhumanity of racialized violence, not only in Africa but across the world.
