Obiageli Annabel Okigbo

Obiageli Okigbo’s training as an architect at Oxford Brooks University and the Architectural Association (UK) left a strong imprint on her work, expanding her reach through new media and support, ranging from “Indian ink on linen” to oil paint and collage. “My ongoing interest in ancient art and mythology has culminated into a process of juxtaposing archetypes from different cultures and epochs with my personal experiences. My current series ‘Lament of the Silent Sisters’ interrogates the relevance of beauty in our contemporary psyche by exploring the notion of the muse, reclaiming the ‘female model’ onto centre stage. This layering of collective introspection renders a ‘timeless’ dimension to the paintings, where past, present and future coexist on the same plane.”
