Architect turned conceptual artist Ade Adekola works in a range of media, including installation, sculpture and photography. His works are charismatic and entrancing, filled with colours and movement, cultural iconology and coveted humour. Adekola’s Colorfield Expressions can be said to inhabit a space in between photography and painting. His approach borrows painting techniques fused with long exposure, blurring and multiple exposure photography. The resulting pieces are often showcased with a rich layering of shapes, where two-dimensional forms, overlap and repeat, intersecting with each other. His images of Lagos become compelling contemporary visual narratives. His transformations succeed in altering the viewer‘s perception of the photographic frame, bringing about a new visual and cultural legacy born of the city of Lagos.
