Data Oruwari is Nigerian-raised and Brooklyn-based visual artist, user experience designer and energy healing enthusiast. She is a contemporary sacred artist who creates unique iconographic representations of afro-spiritual identities. Oruwari combines draughtsmanship with the ancient technique of gilding with 24-carat gold leaf, to create works that illuminate the divine in us all. Her practice seeks to heal and reconnect humanity with spirituality from an African perspective. Oruwari’s influences include the decorative arts, the visionary art movement, byzantine iconography and natural law.
She has participated in group exhibitions at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Ohio; the AMREF ArtBall, New York; the White Cloud Gallery, Washington, D.C. and the Panorama Contemporary Art Fair, Lagos, Nigeria.
