Henri Abraham Univers is a self-taught Franco-Burkinabe painter. He grew up in the multicultural environment of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and in an artistic household, thus ensuring his immersion in creative activity and his openness to a multitude of influences from an early age. Univers studied film directing at le Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français in Paris, but turned to painting shortly afterwards as a more intuitive means of expression.
Univers has been a full-time artist since 2012, and was selected, in 2014, for participation in the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Retro Africa will be presenting the artist’s Basquiat-influenced paintings as well as selections from his Ashanti Doll series.
