ART X CINEMA

Human resources may be central to development, but our stories are the animating principle of progress. In response to the invitation to imagine otherwise—or, in other words, to consider how we might collectively shape a new ethic of living—ART X CINEMA turns its focus to the African metropolis: locations defined by a complexity and potential unmatched anywhere in the world.

By offering a glimpse into the risks, adventures, and tragedies of daily life, the program reminds us of the experiences we share as African citizens. This collection of films allows us to see the everyday differently, with a powerful sense of place, community, and agency. We are reminded that despite the seemingly insurmountable challenges, there is truly no love lost for our homes, our societies, or ourselves.

TALES OF ORDINARY PEOPLE

Inspired by Djibril Diop Mambéty’s collection of films that brought the joy, struggles and resilience of everyday people into focus. This collection of short films centers the voices and the vision of African citizens as they reimagine, expand and delight in the cities that shape them.
