Last weekend you joined us to celebrate and reinforce the resilience, dynamism and diversity of art on our continent and the diaspora. It was a weekend of beauty, reflection, joy and community, and we are thrilled to have been able to provide this unique experience for you all in our seventh year. Thank you to everyone who came from far and wide!
Our biggest and best one yet, this year’s fair had many unforgettable highlights:
Ulin-Nóifo, A Lineage that Never Ends Victor Ehikhamenor’s mixed media installation attracted guests of all backgrounds. The magnificent exhibit featured imposing tapestries of rosary beads, bronze pieces and kernels accompanied by a moving sound installation.
Gallery Exhibitions 31 galleries from across the world exhibited the best of African art, showcasing a diverse variety of mediums, styles and narratives.
“It was great. There was an amazing energy, everybody came, from art lovers to collectors.”
- Tiwani Contemporary (London and Lagos)
“I came last year and I was so enthusiastic about the energy I felt in Lagos and in this fair that I decided to come back. I feel this year, even more energy, and so I'm really happy to be here.”
- Galerie Atiss (Dakar)
“I feel good to be back at ART X Lagos. It's always an exciting time, and this time the show is even bigger. It feels very good” - Afriart Gallery (Kampala)
“Since inception, ART X Lagos has been growing every year… We started with them from the very beginning and so we noticed it’s been growing every year. It's fun to be part of the event and what is happening in the art scene.” - Kó Art Space (Lagos)
Art Across Borders The project brought together 5 unique artistic talents from across Africa in a compelling multimedia exhibit examining the importance of borders and rivers, in partnership with Afreximbank. The videos are now available to watch here.
The 2021 winner of the Access ART X Prize held her solo exhibition at the fair, as we received thousands of applications for the 2022/3 edition of the Prize. Entries are now closed and our esteemed Jurors have begun deliberating on the submitted applications with our Prize Curator, Jumoke Sanwo. The finalists will be announced shortly.
ART X Live! was a night to remember, featuring exhilarating performances from Africa's hottest talents, headlined by Obongjayar and DBN Gogo. Listen to the ART X Live! playlist now on Spotify.
We were thrilled to welcome guests from all over the world, including Black Panther Director, Ryan Coogler, who stopped by and received a tour of the fair by ART X Founder and CEO, Tokini Peterside-Schwebig.
Thank you for gathering with us this past weekend. We look forward to seeing you again soon, and to making the ART X Lagos experience even better for you. We’d love to hear your thoughts, please include them in the survey.
