The Pan-African Library

The ART X Library is a vibrant hub for exploring the core ideas and themes that shape ART X Lagos.

This year, it will spotlight the G.A.S. Foundation’s distinctive book collection, along with exclusive contributions from the 2024 ART X Lagos curators, and a rare collection from Kola Tubosun of Black Orpheus, the groundbreaking first African literary periodical. Through these unique collaborations, the library will feature a diverse array of materials, including rare books, prints, documentaries, and music, all reflecting this year’s theme with a powerful Pan-African perspective.

Our mission is to curate a library that mirrors the cutting-edge trends in contemporary art, showcasing rare materials from independent libraries and educating the public on the critical role of art libraries, archives, and research in shaping both artistic practices and exhibitions. In alignment with ART X Lagos’ visionary curatorial approach, the ART X Library offers a dynamic, enriching experience for visitors, inviting artists, collectors, curators, students, and art enthusiasts to connect with its exceptional resources.

The Pan-African Library is curated by Missla Libsekal – Curator-at-Large with contributions from GAS Foundation, OlongoAfrica, Lanre Masha – ART X Live! Music Curator, Tega Okiti – ART X Cinema Curator, and Jumoke Sanwo – ART X Talent Development Curator.
