CHIDI KWUBIRI

Chidi Kwubiri’s work oscillates between the figurative and the abstract, and focuses on symbols and themes of Nigerian culture — from traditional customs to everyday aspects of social life. Faces, bodies and masks are picked out in bright, expressive colours and acquire depth and detail through the gradual build-up of the dots that eventually fill every inch of his canvases.
Born in Umuahia, Nigeria, but based in Germany since 2000, Kwubiri is a fine arts alumnus of the Düsseldorf Art Academy. His work has been exhibited at museums and galleries across the USA, Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Africa, especially Nigeria, and he is a regular fixture at biennales.
