ROM ISICHEI

DELTA, NIGERIA
PRESENTED BY NIKE ART GALLERY

Rom Isichei (b. 1966) is a conceptual artist renowned for his mixed-media paintings featuring fractured faces in bright colour combinations, created with palette knives and heavy impasto. The faces express a wide range of emotions rendered ambiguous by the artist’s habit of dividing each face into several overlapping panels. The sophistication and energy of these works have made Isichei one of the most successful Nigerian artists of the past decade, with a listing in Nigerian Artists: A Who's Who and Bibliography, Smithsonian Museum of African Art Library. He trained at the Yaba College of Technology and worked in advertising for several years as a graphic artist before dedicating himself to art.
