The ART X Cinema programme at ART X Lagos 2024 gathers a unique selection of storytellers, the current generation of filmmakers and artists, mobilising the art of cinema to convey the desires and conditions of their time. These filmmakers have developed methods of cultural correspondence that challenge and illuminate the trajectories of African and African-descended people. In their hands, cinema becomes a tool for invention, allowing them to produce their unique mythology. They create spaces to reckon with our complex world. Their efforts display the vibrancy and transformation that is possible in the process of viewing and creating cinema. The 13 selected works of film encourage viewers to consider the effort, participation and imagination required for us to arrive at our promised lands.
